Kwame L. Osseo-Asare

Kwame is a co-founder and board chairman of GHATBI. He provides leadership to the Board of Directors and acts as a trusted advisor and direct liaison between the board and the management. Additionally, he develops relationships with development finance institutions, philanthropies, strategic partners, key stakeholders in the local agriculture sector and keeps them abreast on GHATBIs activities. Kwame has a passion for improving communities and developing social enterprises that address the needs and aspirations of base of the pyramid consumers.

In 2012, Kwame founded OXYGEN Group Limited, which invests, organizes external funding from commercial banks, DFIs, SWFs and partners with sophisticated international conglomerates, and engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) companies to participate in Ghana’s emerging growth sectors for the lasting benefit of all stakeholders.

The holding company currently includes – OXYGEN Finance, a SME bank that provides solutions for individuals and businesses seeking funds; OXYGEN Advisory – a provider of solutions for individuals, high net worth clients, corporates and sovereigns seeking strategic investment and funds management advice.

Kwame began his career as a financial analyst in the Global Power and Alternative Energy Group at UBS Investment Bank in New York where he specialized in capital markets, the financial feasibility of proposed mergers, acquisitions, asset purchases and other strategic advisory assignments. Completed transactions included advising MDU Resources on its $475mm acquisition of Cascade Natural Gas Corporation and over $1 billion of debt offerings. After UBS, he was a founding member of Loxodonta Investments, an investment-holding company in the logistics and infrastructure sector based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He also serves as a board director for respEQ, Inc. – a tech-enabled healthcare company in partnership with Johns Hopkins University Hospital and the Sleep Medicine and Pulmonary Group, that has developed a next generation disease management solution for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma based on a smart, wearable sensor that is attached to an inhaler (MDI or dry powder).

Kwame graduated from Harvard University with an A.B. degree in Economics.

Co-Founder of the Summit of Africa’s Young Business Leaders (SAYBL) which brings exceptional achievers from Africa’s leading universities to Washington D.C., New York, and Princeton for discussion and debate around the themes of “Africa as a Place of Opportunity” and “The Challenge of Leadership in Africa”. These young scholars formulate a shared vision of how they can use their expertise to contribute to the economic resurgence of Africa. SAYBL is sponsored by multi-national institutions with a commitment to Africa’s future, including the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation, Diageo Africa, Ecobank Ghana and The Woodrow Wilson School of International Affairs at Princeton University.
